How to Mig Weld Overhead - 4 Tips That Work

Do you want to learn how to mig weld overhead just as good as you can when the piece in laying in front of you on a bench? Of course you do or you wouldn't be reading this.

4 1 2 Grinder

Here's how. (these mig welding tips only apply to 1/8" and thicker steel)
Don't fear the heat KYSS...keep your stickout short Watch the angle of the dangle CCC...clean, clean, clean

4 1 2 Grinder

What do I mean by don't fear the heat? When you are a noob, you tend to think that in order to keep the weld from drooping and hanging down like a bad case of hemorrhoids, you need to turn down the voltage and wire speed. WRONG. You need to mig weld overhead just as hot as you when the weld is in the flat position right in front of you. BUT, in order to make this work, you need to...

KYSS. Keep Your Stickout Short. Too long a stickout (the amount of wire sticking out between the copper contact tip and the arc) will soften the arc and not let the beads flatten out.

Whereas using the same heat you would weld for flat position welding along with keeping your stickout short (1/2" or less) will cause the bead to punch in and the arc force will help the bead flatten out and not sag.

Watch the angle of the dangle too. The angle of the mig gun that is. Too much angle either way is bad, 90 degrees is good and a slight drag angle is probable best for penetration but lets be real...sometimes you have to push the puddle. Just don't get crazy with that angle whether you push or pull the mig gun.

Lastly, all the good mig welding techniques in the world wont help much if you welding on dirty, rusty, or oily metal. Use a grinder, a carbide burr, a wire brush, or whatever it takes to Clean, Clean, Clean. The metal does not have to be perfectly clean, but better too clean than too dirty.

How to Make Pumpkin Soup in a Crockpot

If you love the flavor of homemade pumpkin recipes, you can make crockpot soup to save yourself a lot of time. Crockpot cooking means you can leave your meal to cook itself while you are busy doing other things and crockpot recipes always taste smoother and more richly flavored than other dishes.

4 1 2 Grinder

Pumpkin is a great ingredient to cook in a crockpot because it is naturally sweet and juicy, and crockpot cooking makes it even more so.

4 1 2 Grinder

Types of Slow Cooked Pumpkin Soup Recipes

You can make spicy crockpot pumpkin soup, sweet crockpot pumpkin soup or another type. Pumpkin is so versatile that you can use it equally well in sweet or savory recipes. There are not many other vegetables you could say that about.

This soup does not have to be defined as sweet or savory and you can have sweet-flavored, savory pumpkin soup, combining ingredients like potato, onion, sugar, cream, and cinnamon. That combination would not work in many other recipes but pumpkin binds the savory ingredients with the sweet ones perfectly.

Recipe for Crockpot Curried Pumpkin Soup

This delicious pumpkin soup recipe can be served as it is, or used as a sauce for chicken, pork or another type of meat. There are spices in this pumpkin soup but the soup comes out very mild flavored, rather than fiery hot.

Garnish the soup with grated cheddar cheese and toasted cashew nuts for a really delicious taste and texture. This canned pumpkin soup recipe is suitable for beginner cooks, because it is so simple, and it makes a great lunch, dinner, or appetizer. This recipe makes enough for six servings.

Slow Cooked Pumpkin Soup with Mild Spices

What you will need:

4 cups vegetable broth 8 fl oz can evaporated milk 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup half and half 1/2 cup Maple syrup (not imitation maple syrup) 1 teaspoon garlic powder 29 oz can pumpkin puree 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon chili powder 2 teaspoons coriander seeds 1/4 teaspoon whole cloves 1/2 teaspoon green peppercorns
How to make it:

Toast the coriander seeds, peppercorns, and cloves in a hot, dry skillet. Add the ground spices and toast everything over a high heat for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the spices start smoking. Remove them from the heat, let them cool down, and grind to a powder using an electric coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle.

Pour the half and half, broth and evaporated milk into the crockpot. Stir the mixture well, cover the crockpot and turn it to high. Put the pureed pumpkin in a bowl with the salt, maple syrup, and powdered spice mixture and whisk to blend everything together.

Add the pumpkin mixture to the crockpot, whisking well so you do not get lumps. Cover the crockpot and simmer the soup for 2 or 3 hours. The soup is now ready to serve.

10 Easy Steps For The Perfect Cup Of Espresso At Home

There is nothing like a nice cup of espresso in the morning while reading the paper or after having a nice evening dinner. In this article I'll explain how to make the perfect cup of espresso, so you can enjoy your espresso even more. Follow the steps below and create your own home-made espresso.

4 1 2 Grinder

Step 1: First of all, I'm assuming that you have your own coffee grinder and that you grind your own coffee beans. If you don't, or you are planning to do so, you can skip the rest of this article because the perfect cup of espresso can only be made by using freshly grounded beans.

4 1 2 Grinder

Fill your coffee grinder with beans. Don't use more beans than necessary for the amount of coffee you are now going to make. The quality of the beans will degenerate quickly when exposed to air. This also applies to the coffee in your grinder!

Step 2: Make sure that your cup is warm enough. Usually the cup-heater of your espresso machine doesn't give enough heat to let the cup reach the right temperature. It's better to warm the cup with hot water. It's best not to use the warm water from your espresso machine, this decreases the temperature in the boiler of your machine, especially machines equipped with one boiler. Machines that have two boilers will supply water that is too hot for the cup, causing the coffee to burn when it's poured into the cup. If the cup-heater of your espresso machine does supply enough heat, be sure to place the cups in the middle, this is often the hottest zone. Make sure you place the cups up-side-down to capture the heat, but don't stack the cups.

Step 3: Dry your cup, make sure you do this before you remove the portafilter from your espresso machine. This prevents the portafilter from cooling down.

Step 4: Remove the portafilter from your machine. Rinse the portafilter for a very short time (no longer than 2 seconds!) with hot water from the machine. This is done to rinse and clean the portafilter. Make sure you don't rinse too long or with too much water, otherwise the water temperature in your machine will drop too much. By the way, always keep the portafilter placed in your machine and not next to it, this keeps the portafilter at the right temperature and ready for use.

Step 5: Clean the portafilter and make sure it's dry, you don't want the coffee and water to spatter all around your machine. This prevents a mess and it keeps the humidity as stable as possible in the environment around your coffee beans.

Step 6:

Now grind the right amount of coffee beans. Don't use more coffee than necessary to prevent oxidation of the remaining coffee grinding. Espresso uses a very fine grind, you only know if the grind is good when the brewing water is extracted in the right amount of time. (see step 10) You should use 6,5 grams of coffee to fill your portafilter.

Step 7:

Make sure you level the coffee with your finger and compact the coffee from 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock. This will improve the extraction later. Water always takes the path of least resistance causing the less dense coffee to be over-extracted and the surrounding denser grounds will not receive enough water flow and will be under-extracted.

Step 8:

Now use your tamper to apply pressure to your coffee grind. Be sure to use a tamper that fits exactly in the portafilter. Sometimes you'll receive a plastic tamper when you buy an espresso machine, they are usually incapable for applying enough pressure. Apply about 20-25 kg of pressure, if you're unsure how much that is, try pressing on a scale. You'll see that you tend to apply too much pressure. There are also devices available like a Clickertamp, which gives a click when enough pressure is applied.

Press down evenly with 20 to 25 kg of pressure, focusing more on being even than on pressure. Twist the tamper as you lift it upwards to prevent the coffee grounds from lifting with the packer. Gently remove the tamper. Make sure the edges of the portafilter are clean, this prevents problems when placing the portafilter in the machine. It also prevents coffee grind falling into your cup underneath the portafilter.

Step 9:

Put the portafilter in your espresso machine and immediately turn it on! If you wait too long, the coffee will burn due to the high temperature of the machine. Be sure that your espresso machine is set to produce 30cc of coffee in the cup. If you use a small cup, you can lift it up in the beginning to prevent spatters.

Step 10:

Keep an eye on the extraction time of the coffee, the ideal time is 25-28 seconds. If you want you can use a stopwatch. If it takes a shorter amount of time, the grind size is too big. If it takes longer, the grind is too fine and your coffee will taste bitter. In both of the cases adjust the grinding size of your coffee grinder.

Finally check the color of the crema, this has to be brown and evenly distributed over the surface. The crema layer should be strong enough to hold a spoon of sugar for several seconds. The perfect espresso smells like fresh roasted coffee beans and gives a 'round' taste in your mouth. You'll often recognize the perfect espresso after you tasted it for the first time. Enjoy!

12 AMP Power with SJS to Protect Gears
The 9564CV is powered by a 12 AMP motor with soft start for smoother start-ups. The five-stage variable speed dial (2,800 - 10,500 RPM) allows the user to match the RPM to the application. The electronic limiter stops the motor and reduces accidental motor overload and burnout, and the electronic speed control maintains consistent speed under load. Labyrinth construction protects the motor with a complex set of channels, prohibiting dust and contamination. In addition, the protective zig-zag varnish seals the motor and bearings from dust and debris by creating a barrier under rotation. The 9564CV is engineered with SJS, an innovation from Makita that protects the gears by automatically disengaging the motor should the grinding wheel accidentally catch or bind.

Comfort and Ergonomics
The 9564CV is built with comfort and ergonomic features for extended use. The grinder weighs just 4 pounds with a lock-on switch for easy operation. In addition, the side handle can be easily installed on either side of the tool, and the "tool-less" wheel guard adjustment provides easy clamping.

Variable Speed for Stone Work
The 9564CV is a versatile and powerful grinder with variable speed, allowing the user to set the RPM to the material. The variable speed control feature makes the 9564CV ideal for stone work, including polishing and grinding. The 9564CV is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

About Makita's Super Joint System (SJS)
Super Joint System (SJS) is an innovation from Makita engineering where the motor armature and spiral bevel gear are linked by a coil spring. If the grinding wheel catches or binds, the coil spring relaxes and disengages the gears from the motor. As the grinding wheel stops, the gears and motor are protected. Makita's growing line of SJS-equipped grinders includes models ranging from a 1/4" die grinder to a 7-inch angle grinder.

How to Make Garam Masala

Garam masala is a hot blend of spices in Hindi. It is a mixture of ground spices used in Indian curries, usually mixing cinnamon, roasted cumin, cloves, nutmeg and (at times) dried red chile peppers. As ready made garam masala cannot retain its aroma for long, people normally make their own. This is the method of preparing fresh garam masala before preparing any Indian dish.

4 1 2 Grinder

Ingredients
· 1 tsp whole cloves
· 3 - 4 bay leaves
· 2 green cardamom pods
· 4 black cardamom pods
· 12 black peppercorns
· 1/2 freshly grated nutmegs
· 6-7cm acacia bark; for a woody, bittersweet flavor. They are easily available in Asian supermarkets, but if you can't get them, use cinnamon sticks. They will give a sweeter taste, but not much flavor as the acacia bark.

4 1 2 Grinder

Steps
1. Using the back of a spoon or spatula, crush 4 black and 2 green cardamom pods till they separate. Remove the seeds from the pods and throw away the empty pods.

2. Grate 1/2 fresh nutmeg cloves, just enough to get a tablespoon.

3. Heat a non-stick frying pan on low to medium heat. Put 1 tsp of whole cloves, 3-4 bay leaves, seeds of 2 green and 4 black cardamoms, 12 black peppercorns and split up the acacia bark into the pan.

4. Stir for around 30 seconds to release the aromas of the spices.

5. Take off the pan from the heat, and put in the grated nutmeg. The nutmeg will burn quickly if the pan is very hot, as it is already powdered. Stir slowly and regularly to prevent charring. The nutmeg will start turning brown.

6. Pour contents of the pan into a spice grinder or a mortar and pestle or a clean coffee grinder (if spice grinder is not available). However a spice grinder will offer higher consistency and texture.

7. Make a nice, smooth powder by grinding the mixture.

8. Find out if the spices are totally fully ground after grinding for nearly 30 seconds. If not, repeat the process till you get a fine powder.

9. Store the freshly prepared garam masala in an airtight container, so that it remains fresh for 3-6 months.

What Is Curry?

Curry is not a single spice- this is often a fact that might startle someone who is used to the concept of adding curry to create Indian food. As a teacher of Indian cooking, it is not unusual for me to meet students who do not realize this.

4 1 2 Grinder

Actually, the word curry simply speaking is the simplest English matching for the Hindi word masala that translates to refer to a spice blend. In Indian parlance, the word curry refers to the gravy or sauce that usually is the base of Indian food, Indians hardly thing of curry as something dry.

4 1 2 Grinder

However, in meshing these two concepts that of a dry catch all spice (OK spice blend) and the gravy that surround the food, a basic all in one curry blend can be created. In its most basic form the Indian spicing is balanced and complex. This might seem like an oxymoron, but it is very symbolic of the balanced and complex culture that is India.

So going back to a curry blend, to find a blend that would make a good curry one needs a mix that is hot, sweet, fragrant, bitter and sharp thereby meeting all the balance of flavors. A common mixture that works can be the combination of spices as listed,

Hot: Red and Black Peppers
Sweet: Fennel seeds
Fragrant: Cinnamon, Cardamom and Cloves
Bitter: Fenugreek seeds
Sharp: Cumin and Coriander

So there you have it, try this all in one blend to conjure you next Indian curry,

All in one curry

Makes 1 cup

Ingredients

2-3 dried red chillies 1 tablespoon black pepper 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 large piece of cinnamon 3-4 pods cardamom 7 cloves 1 tsp fenugreek seeds 1 tbsp cumin seeds 2 tsp coriander seeds 1 tsp turmeric

Method of Preparation

1. Place all the ingredients on a skillet and dry roast these ingredients.
2. Place in a coffee grinder and grind to a fine powder.

The Three Major Types of Power Tool Batteries

Cordless tool batteries are certainly a requirement in order for us to be able to use cordless power tools like a cordless power drill, hedge trimmer, leaf blower and many more. When buying a cordless power tool for your household projects, keep in mind that battery voltage is not the only important factor to consider. Other factors such as the battery's amp/hour capacity as well as its type should not be taken for granted when purchasing batteries for your cordless power tools.

4 1 2 Grinder

Cordless tool batteries are available up to 36 volts. A 19.2-volt battery or even a 14.4-volt one can surpass the battery rating of a 36-volt battery if those batteries with lower voltage capacity have higher amp/hour capacity than the latter. In rating cordless tool batteries, voltage as well as Amp hour is considered. Ampere-hour is a measure of how long the battery can last, while voltage is a measure of the battery's electric current or power. Thus, basing on the information mentioned, the higher the voltage and the higher the amp/hour capacity, the more powerful the battery is.

4 1 2 Grinder

The usual sizes available for cordless tools are 1.2, 2.4 and 3.0 Amp / hour. It's at the bottom part of the battery or sometimes on both sides where you locate the label that describes the batteries amp/hour rating.

There are three (3) major types that are used for modern cordless power tools. These include: Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH).

Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) offer up to 400 charge cycles before needing a replacement. Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) can last more than 400 times of recharge. Whereas, Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteries can power up your cordless power tools with a lifespan of more than 1,200 times recharges (as per manufacturer's product description) before a required replacement.

What about their charging time? Majority of older ones need 6 hours of recharging time yet last only an hour when used for works. When buying batteries your cordless power tools, charging time should be put into consideration. You do not want to waste your precious time while working, just waiting for the battery to be fully charged. Using Lithium Ion battery can certainly overcome this problem and it is the best way since this battery only takes 15 minutes to recharge.

We usually follow the recommendation of the manufacturer when it comes to maintaining cordless power tool batteries. This usually involves replacement batteries that sometimes force you to spend money. Similar to your power tools including their parts, cordless tool batteries come with service warranty.

Black Friday Bosch 1810PS 4-1/2-Inch Paddle Switch Grinder with Lock-On Switch Overview

Grinders lack the glamour of routers, say, and compound miter saws, but when it's a grinder you need, we don't think there are too many better choices out there than this one. "You get what you pay for" is, we think, even more true in the world of tools than elsewhere, and this is definitely a case in point. We've never met a Bosch tool that lacked quality, precision engineering, ergonomics and power, and this grinder is no exception. Our favorite feature on this one is definitely the paddle switch, not just for comfort and convenience, but for the ultimate in safety and control. We're not big fans of the lock-on button, because it negates the safety feature of the paddle switch, but we know some of you wouldn't have it any other way.

Black Friday Bosch 1810PS 4-1/2-Inch Paddle Switch Grinder with Lock-On Switch Specifications

Grinders lack the glamour of routers, say, and compound miter saws, but when it’s a grinder you need, we don’t think there are too many better choices out there than this one. "You get what you pay for" is, we think, even more true in the world of tools than elsewhere, and this is definitely a case in point.

We’ve never met a Bosch tool that lacked quality, precision engineering, ergonomics and power, and this grinder is no exception. Our favorite feature on this one is definitely the paddle switch, not just for comfort and convenience, but for the ultimate in safety and control. We’re not big fans of the lock-on button, because it negates the safety feature of the paddle switch, but we know some of you wouldn’t have it any other way.

As for user ease, it’s fabtastic. It weighs in just over 4 pounds, and the balance in hand is supreme. Up against other grinders in its class, the vibration is absolutely minimal, virtually eliminating that unpleasant arm-buzz. Another thing we like about this grinder is its ability to draw power from DC outlets, so if you’ll be grinding welds, this tool is a perfect choice.

The 4-1/2-inch wheel changes out fast, and the guard adjusts without tools. The whole tool says "quality," from the sealed switch to the ServiceMinder™ brushes that automatically shut down the tool when it’s time to change them, ensuring that this workhorse will be with you for a long, long time. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Floor Tile Cutting - How to Achieve Angle Cuts on Floor Tiles Using an Angle Grinder

When making cuts on floor tiles using the angle grinder and diamond blade, this is where the tricky part comes into practice. Not only is it a hand held tool which is more difficult to control for doing straight lines, but you also have to gradually cut the tile from the reverse underside. When marking your tile for cutting, you actually have to mirror the measurements to obtain the correct dimensions for topside laying, and this can be a somewhat confusing aspect at the best of times.

4 1 2 Grinder

Once happy with your desired markings, you then follow your lines with lightly scored cuts, going over the same spot maybe around 4 to 5 times to as far as the glaze only, and never straight through in one go. If you attempt this, you'll probably just end up breaking the floor tile in no time, so the trick to cutting with the angle grinder is with gentle sweeping strokes, and never all the way.

4 1 2 Grinder

For ease of control to suit your own preferences, you can either hold the main body of the angle grinder with one hand, and with the other hold the optional grip handle which sticks out from either the left or the right. This method will give you a more precise and rigid control over cutting which is ideal for straight lines.

For rounded lines however, then with both hands on the main body you can achieve a more free-flowing action ideal for circular sweeps. The guard which protects your hands from the blade can also be rotated to suit your choice of cutting angle, but whatever you do, never remove it from the grinder. It is there for a purpose if it's your own personal protection that you value most.

If you have a circular pattern to remove from a tile, do this in stages like with the wet tile saw in making a 'comb teeth' pattern following your main line of cut. Once you have a series of 1/4" to 1/2" inch wide 'teeth' along your line cut from the reverse side but not entirely all the way through to the glaze, you can then easily nip these off with either your tile nippers or standard pliers, and clean up the sharp edges as you go. As always though, safety first, so never forget to wear your eye protection even when nibbling tiles. Those shards can snap off like bullets.

As an ideal method of practice to get the hang of these techniques before actually applying them to your job, it is always wise to get a little experience in first to establish your comfort zone. Using off-cuts or broken floor tiles beyond salvage, first get some training in on how to cut tiles using the angle grinder. You can never be too careful when trying out something new, and the last thing you want is unnecessary wastage and higher expense to the budget of your floor tiling project.
